Emanuella approached us on the streets of Cassino, Italy at 3AM during an all-night festival to help us translate a struggling conversation! She overheard our failing attempts to converse and cheerfully intervened. Emanuella is Italian and was raised in Cassino, however she had spent many summers with her extended family in Toronto, Canada. From that, she developed a strong Canadian accent with her English! It was almost like hearing two different people speak when she translated: one was boisterous and dramatic accompanied with grand hand gestures in her wonderfully romantic Italian; then she would switch to an almost Minnesota/North Dakota/Canadian accent with lots of “oh-yeah’s” and “don’t ya know’s” in her impeccably perfect English. She had a radiantly bubbly personality and we hit it off immediately. I have a feeling she’s never met a stranger in her life.
Cheers,
SA
